Ice Bar

We were booked in at the Ice Bar just off Regent Street, you pay £12 to hang out for 45 minutes drinking Absolut vodka in -5 degress C; the shots are £6 each but you get a free one with the ticket. It started to get a bit chilly after a while but was certainly a good way to drink vodka. Notable drinks were the Absolut Aurora Borealis and the Absolut Pepar vodka, a bit like drinking a Bloody Mary.

Urquhart Castle
Urquhart castle is situated on the northern bank of the 37 km long Loch Ness. I had always wanted to visit Loch Ness in some meaningful way, I had driven along the northern end from Inverness about a year ago but that was to go for a walk around Loch Affric.Leaving Fort William for the 50 mile road trip, we had a pleasant enough drive and arrived in gloomy conditions, quite right for Loch Ness I thought.
The castle has some very interesting history and has been made available to the public with a good audio-visual show to begin with, the curtains pening at the end to a picture window overlooking the castle ruins. I've always been interested in how powers rise and fall and how the castle was eventually demolished in 1689 by masses of gunpowder kegs placed in the gate house.
Interesting for me was the trebuchet they have on show, I am not sure whether this is an original or a replica but if it's older than 1689, it has survived very well, situated as it is outside in the damp air of Loch Ness.Urquhart Castle is a long way to go just for that but if you are passing I recommend a visit; the £6 entry fee is definitely worthwhile!

There, it says so here.

Marillion

Met some of the others in the Bull & Gate next door for a few before going in; some were on the guest list so had Access All Areas passes, good if you can get one! Saw a few more Marillion friends inside, usual suspects always turning up at Marillion gigs.
Excellent set, probably one of my favourites, including Beautiful, Gazpacho, Fantastic Place, Out of This World, Go, Cathedral Wall and Neverland! What a set!
Max came down and kindly donated his After Show pass so we could go and hob-nob with band and hangers on afterwards. It was nice to see Lucy again and some of the band mingling around. We soon left though and ended up getting a £50 taxi back home!

Fire on the Water
When I touch you I can feel you shivering
I can feel your heart is beating fast
We are alone in this crowded room
Oh tonight there is something happening
And it’s something that should never be
But there’s a flame over you and me
And I can see the fire on water
I can see the light shining in your eyes
I know that I can’t stop it now
’cos I’ve been caught in the heat of the sun...
There’s a place and an ancient fortress
High above the worries of the world
I’d love you there for a long, long time
And we’ll discover all our deepest secrets
And let the spirit go flying free
Until the dawn breaks over the sea
It’s burning like fire on the water
I can see the light shining in your eyes
I know that I can’t stop it now
’cos I’ve been caught in the heat of the sun
Yes I’ve been caught in the heat of the sun
Oh let it shine on me
And I can see the fire on the water
I can see the light shining in your eyes
I know that I can’t stop it now
’cos I’ve been caught in the heat of the sun
Yes I’ve been caught in the heat of the sun
Oh let it shine on me
And I can see the fire on the water
Can’t stop it now...
